Our farm is located in Brookfield, Prince Edward Island, on rich agricultural land. On PEI, our soil is packed full of nutrients, especially iron, which gives it a unique red hue- hence the name Red Soil Organics.

We are a family farm, owned by Matthew, Eddy, and Gerald Dykerman. Eddy and Gerald have been farming on PEI for a long time, having first established a successful conventional vegetable operation.  Matthew partnered with them to begin farming organically in 2009.

We are passionate about farming. We hope that our passion is reflected in the quality of the produce which we sell, and the standard of service we provide to our customers.

What is “Organic?”

Organic agriculture seeks to protect natural resources such as the earth, air, and water.

It promotes the use of naturally occurring and renewable resources, sustainable production practices, and food that is safe to eat.

Organic agriculture also prohibits the use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, and genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

On our farm, this means that…

We follow long crop rotations (4+years) to improve soil quality and reduce soil borne diseases.

We use trap crops and other innovative methods to reduce bothersome insects.

We weed our fields mechanically and physically

We DO NOT use synthetic pesticides or fertilizers, or genetically modified (GM) seed.

We use cover crops to reduce erosion, suffocate weeds, produce soil nutrients, improve soil structure, and protect nearby waterways.
